Abstract
Chan Buddhism spread from China to Vietnam, Northeast Korea, East Japan and the Southern Asia and nowadays has received interest in the western countries. This article overviews the origin of Chan Buddhism and Zen Buddhism. Zen tradition has origins from China, nevertheless it is necessary to consider further Zen development because of more popularity of Zen in Japan.
