Abstract
About 82% of the Indian people are Hindus, and about 12% are Muslims. The next largest religious groups are in order of size, are Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains.
Hindus are divided into a large number of groups called castes. The castes are grouped into 4 main categories such as Brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaishyas and shudras. Also one group of people, who is existing out of social relations, called Pariah. Hindus worship many divinities. The three most important ones are Brahma, the creator of the universe; Vishnu, its prserver; and Shiva its destroyer.
Hinduism has a number of sucred writings that outline how is its followers should conduct their lives.
